What does one of these cost? I just pick-up a nice FS bike that was built-up
with STX-RC. I am thinking that LX might be a better choice for it.

What specifically do you need? Do you need a KIT or just the groupo?
Kit includes everything, wheels, tires, bars, etc. groupo is just the
shimano parts. Let me know and I'll give you a quote.

LX is a good upgrade or you could go with Sram like I
did to my 98 Proflex / K2 2000.

Why do you need to upgrade? I recognize that LX is "better" than
STX-RC, but is the STX-RC not functioning to your liking? I'm just
playing a little bit of a devil's advocate here - that I see a lot of
people "upgrading" parts that truly, if you painted XTR on it, you'd
not notice the difference. Ride the STX for a little while, and only
replace what you don't like. I'd be willing to bet that the levers,
brakes, cranks, are all just fine. Maybe you'll get better precision
shifting from a new RD, but a FD? The difference between XTR and STX
is negligible. Of course, it might be lighter... but my philosophy on
that is to look at yourself in the mirror.... do you have more than 11%
body fat? Then you can shave 1-2 lbs off of your bike/rider weight
just by riding a little harder and eating a little better. The bottom
line -- ride your bike to ride your bike! Bling is nice, but enjoying
yourself as much as the guy who spent thousands on XTR for the price of
STX is priceless.
