So I'm driving home tonight around 11..
"Yeah, driving, keep it down! keep it down!"
Anyways, in the far east, Canterbury Rd.
splittith in twoeth and so I expect to see only
front lights on the other side of the road. What
do I see now? Tail-lights? Whatever could it
be? Slowing a little, I try to peer through the
median strip trees and see what is travelling the
wrong way along Canterbury Rd.
It's two motorbikes! Not monkey bikes, these
are full size dirt bikes. Where are they? They're
on the footpath of course!
The End.

If this was out Kilsyth way, I can't say that I'm at all surprised
They were probably on their way out to pick up a couple of slabs fro
the bottle shop

Maybe new, but hardly surprising, I'm affraid.

Speaking of monkey bikes, I had one go off the footpath on Friday. Guy
about 5'10" riding one of these things. Saw him lying on the nature strip,
while I was on a bus; he was clearly unconcious - no helmet and the side of
his face was grazed from the bridge of his nose to the right ear.

Called an ambulance (as did the bus driver, but I had a first aid kit in my
backpack with some basic first aid knowledge). Monkey Boy regained
conciousness, got up and, staggering, began walking home with me saying
"you're bleeding and were unconcious" and him saying "It's ok, mate, I'm
goin' home" (!) I set off after him and he did indeed make it home - over
half a mile later and he set quite a cracking pace. Ambulance shows up and
looks at the guy at which time I leave.

If he'd gone home and there was nobody there to help him, he might have died
hours later from the concusion (no doubt in my mind considering the shape he
was in).

Those monkey bike simply have to be taken off the streets/footpaths
permanently; they've already killed a couple of people and now I've seen it
myself.

We can get people to the Moon in five years,
not the fifteen GWB proposes.
Give NASA a real challenge

Canterbury Rd., just before Bayswater/Scoresby Rd.
We were both heading outbound.

Good for you, probably wasn't an Ambo member and didn't want to fork out
the cash.

Just a guess.

Tourists from Europe taken a wrong turn, maybe?

Or perhaps some Dakar Rally folks that have gotten really, really lost?
What next? - BMW X-5s with full off-road kits driving down Riversdale
Road? (Ooops, just realised how unintendedly sarcastic last sentence
was 8-) .)

Pardon my ignorance (yet again) but what are 'monkey bikes'?
(My first word association football guess was that it meant Sunday
Harley-Davidsons with 'Ape Hanger' handlebars...)

Does it mean those little 50cc ridable scale models of racing bikes, or
does it mean those motorised scooters?

Yours in probably getting the wrong end of the stick yet again,

Yes, and they're going to be banned! The little killjoy in me comes
out and says "Hip Hip Hooray!" Out where my folks live, on the nw
outskirts, you get frustrated teenagers on dirtbikes on every
semi-ignored dirt track or access road. Cops can't/won't stop em: too
fast, no id.

What about having to register ALL motorbikes at purchase, little, big
or offroad? Get rid of the loopholes and make MTBing and dirt biking in
state forests safer for those who have a bit of responsibility, i.e.
registered and licensed motorised riders. I've almost had bad accidents
many times getting off trails in time for no-skill morons to just miss
me.

M "yep, got a 2 wheeler licence" H
