View Full Version : Herald Sun Tour - Who's checking out what?

For those in Victoria, the Herald Sun Tour starts this Saturday with a
TTT down at Williamstown. I'm hoping toget down there to watch. Anyone
else got plans on watching any of the Stages live? The ITT looks good
too, though I'll be stuck at work:( I should be able to get to the last
stage (Crit) in Carlton too.

Nah, no plans of yet except for catching the Carlton crit. Can't find
any broadcast details, can anyone give a heads up on this?

I thought about taking a sickie to watch the Monbulk to Mt Dandenong
section. But then I might need that sickie for the day after the ATB
ride. It's a pity they don't run some of the good sections over the
weekend.

Oops!
Just checking out the cool liftout again that was in the paper the
other day looking for potential 'sicky days' and noticed that it starts
on SUNDAY not Saturday.
I hope the 'Few showers' are gone by then too.

You gone all internationalë on us?

That's twice today.

I'm just trying to work out how you can accidentally press an "á" key
on an US-ASCII keyboard. Next, we'll be calling you "Kàth¥" :)

P.S. I am suprised that I am home from WoJ earlier than what I would
be had I ridden. However, I am home a lot drier than I would have
been, had I not caught the train -- call me a fair weather cyclist, if
you will, but that radar looks horrid.

I wouldn't have said "brutal" (quite) but my trip home from Tulla. was
very bloody soggy. Downright wet in fact...

But look on the bright side - a whole pile of old muck got washed off
the bike and was replaced by a whole pile of BRAND NEW muck...:-)

I christened my brand new chain since I got the bike back from its
service today.

Feels good to be back on a bike that actually changes gears promptly,
and has a gear cable that doesn't resist all semblance of movement.

I got home to a dark house...someone apparently Friday-nighted their car
into a telephone pole cutting power for several blocks. I woke up around 4am
when all the lights turned on.

I think I might ride down to Williamstown after the BR, provided I'm
not too stuffed.

the SS to the Punt under the Westgate and down to Williamstown. We did
a few rolling laps of the corse with pros warming up on course too.
"I love the sound of CF disc wheels in the morning."
Time to get some breaky and a some coffees up Ferguson St. Then back
down the course to look around some more before getting a good pozie on
the exit of the 1st round-a-bout. 1st on course was FdJ.

'_http://www.flickr.com/photos/jaywoo/50703857/_'
Then it was down to the Ferguson St. Round-a-bout to catch them on the
way back with Cooke leading them round.
'_http://www.flickr.com/photos/jaywoo/50703858/_'
There was three dropped FdJ riders & the last looked like he had gone
down as the left shoulder of his jersey was scuffed up & he was
sporting a bloody elbow too.
Stayed to watch a few more teams steam on through...
'_http://www.flickr.com/photos/jaywoo/50703859/_'
… then went further down towards the straighter part of 'The Strand'.
Then it was back towards the start/finish as the last few teams headed
out.

'_http://www.flickr.com/photos/jaywoo/50705966/_'
Also saw & said hi to ‘Ess’ & TimC’ here too.
We didn’t stick around for the presentations so it was a tail wind back
down to the Punt and back to St. Kilda.

i was out on the course so i didnt see the FDJ crash, but i was suprised
to see jayco make middle of the field as at one point they were left
with only four riders, having to slow down for the req. five to stop
the clock. was quite dramatic with the yelling and all

Wow! Didn't know there was a crash. I rocked up at about 1:20 pm so
would've missed it.

Saw TimC and E93 across the way on the park side of the course. By the
time I got over there they'd moved on. Got a few signatures. Had Nick
Gates sign my Lotto-Davitamon top that I got from France (and which is
also signed by Axel Merckx).

Also got some photos signed from when I was at the Duplex nightclub in
Paris after the last stage of the Tour. Had my photo taken with most of
the Aussie riders there. They laughed asking where the photo was taken
when they signed them (Simon Gerrans, Baden Cooke and Matthew Wilson).
So I was pretty wrapped with that.

Cyclingnews says they crashed into a motorcycle! Interesting mix of
gear looking at the pics, only one or two riders in a team using aero
bars, some teams with none. Was it a really short course or twisty?

was pretty **** poor, though riders were still dropping off the team
bunch. A 'Blast Fest'. Is there such thing as a Team Prologue? They
could have taken the course up pass Science Works and under the
Westgate & back to lengthen it. Maybe it was the whole road closure,
permit thing?

4.x km return, with a few twists around roundabouts, and a bit of a
cross-wind.

Into a motorbike? It is the motorcycle rider's responsibility to get
out of the way (at least, it is on the TdF), but what happens, when it
causes the loss of a race?
