Waste of Money

Letter to the Editor:
Progress Leader - Booroondara

It is incomprehensible that nearly $1 million has been spent on more
bicycle lanes when they are not used. If thousands or even hundreds of
cyclists were in evidence on the roads I would happily accept the need
for bike lanes, but there are not.

Bicycle Victoria/Australia and the lucky, selfish, seven cyclists - or
whoever is lobbying the State Government or local council for the lanes
- I'm sure are laughing their bike pants off as they cruise in their
own totally empty lane of taxpayers' road.

I am sick of this politically correct, environmentallly friendly
rubbish. Try living in the real world. People just don't want to ride
bikes except for a bit of exercise on the weekend (but not on Balwyn
Road).

How do you get the weeks shopping home in your bike basket, for
instance. Oh, yeah, I forgot - you don't go shopping because you are a
vegetarian and grow your organic vegetables at home, and, of course,
you weave your own clothes.

Sorry, but I am annoyed at the waste of money, when community centres
and the like are busting their guts to raise a few grand that would
help so many in the community instead of a very few pedal pushers who
obviously are fit enough to ride.

Diane Keating, Balwyn.

Waste of Money

Letter to the Editor:
Progress Leader - Booroondara

It is incomprehensible that nearly $1 trillion has been spent on more
car lanes when they are not used. If thousands or even hundreds of
motorists were in evidence on the roads I would happily accept the need
for car lanes, but there are not.

RACV/Australia and the lucky, selfish, seven motorists still left in
Booroondara - or whoever is lobbying the State Government or local
council for the lanes - I'm sure are laughing their seatbelts off as
they cruise in their own totally empty lane of taxpayers' road.

I am sick of this politically unsustainable, non
environmentally-friendly rubbish. Try living in the real world. People
just can't afford to drive cars except for a bit of shopping on the
weekend (but not on Beach Road).

It's so easy get the weeks shopping home in your bike basket or
panniers, for instance. Oh, yeah, I forgot - you go shopping because
you all eat at MacDonalds and don't grow your organic vegetables at
home, and, of course, you don't weave your own clothes.

Sorry, but I am annoyed at the waste of money, when community centres
and the like are busting their guts to raise a few grand that would
help so many in the community instead of a very few selfish motorists
who obviously are not fit enough to ride.

Like it centurion. Like it. Like it.

Truth is traffic in Balwyn Rd. Malvern Rd. and several other roads
that were only 1.5 car lanes wide now flows a lot better because of the
bike lanes even if there ain't a cyclist in them

Wow - I really don't fit into this woman's worldview - I ride on Balwyn
Rd (on weekdays!) and DO carry my weeks shopping home (in the
trailer)...

"fit enough to ride"??? What, you mean having legs and a bum?? geez..
might respond myself to this trollop. Got the email addy for the

attempt 1:

For someone who speaks of ‘living in the real world’, Ms Keating needs
something of a reality check herself.

On a normal day in Melbourne there are thousands of cyclists using a
range of roads, on-road and off-road paths to commute cheaply, safely
and environmentally sensitively, all who pay their taxes, often own a
car as well, and as such pay as much for that bike lane as anybody
else.

I for one am one of many people who do ride on Balwyn Road every
weekday, and am thankful for the work done to make that road safer for
cyclists and motorists alike. Maybe if Ms Keating looked at the big
picture (and kept her eyes on the road) she might notice that too. And
with increasing fuel prices and congestion, she’d do well to throw a
leg over a saddle herself. You don’t need that much fitness to ride
Diane!

And by the way, it’s more than possible to do your weeks shopping by
bike. I do so (with a bike trailer) every week!
------

hmm.. just looked up this nuff-nuffs address.. I ride right past her
house on the way home! Hmm... the evil temptation for mischief... i
mean, re-education...

See, that's the great thing about these letters. The provide the addy of

Shock horror, 'Diane' had 2 4WD's in the driveway

Thanks to your diligent readers i have been made aware that all I have
to do to cease paying taxes is to ride a bike! After all, only
'taxpayers' money is spent on cycling infrastructure and apparently
cyclists dont pay taxes!

Thanks for the free bike lanes folks....

Unfortunately I foresee that we (not me) taxpayers will have to pay
when our fat-arse Diane goes into cardiac arrest around the age of 50

-providing she doesn't have private Health Insurance (which she
probably does)

IMO bike lanes serve only one useful purpose, they get people riding.
It's a shame because they're really not necessary but they do give
people the impetuous to get going.

1. Get bigger panniers
2. Add bannaa box loads to the top of your rack.
3) get a trailer.
4) shop more frequently and get more exercise.
5) do you really use/need all that crap.
6) step on all boxes of stuff before loading.

And will book into a public hospital bed to be treated.

Hmm, interesting way to tax $WD owners, insist that they must have full
private health coverage to cover their increased likelihood of cardiac
failure.

derrijohns ?

You know, those big plastic ones that fit on the water cooler in the
office and when filled with vinegar and bicarb make great rockets {:-).

I am actually wondering if these are cheaper than the dual filtered
water that we drink. Fecking cost of particles and charcola filters
every three months.

Might be great to adapt as bicycle water bottles for the desert trip!

We're just booked a week's hodiday on Rottnest Island. No private
cars. Travel everywhere by bike (6 families and all cyclists). Public
bus on island as alternative to bikes. The grocery shop(s) deliver your
groceries if you want. Can only take two bags per person so no-one can
take heaps of useless sh1t. Does this justify the purchase of a bike
trailer so I can do the grocery shopping while we are there?

Poor Diane is clearly jealous and obviously NOT fit enough to ride. We
should feel sorry for her, the poor, stupid, fat arsed, 4WDing, lazy,
selfish cow. Next time I'm visiting my old friends in Nth Balwyn, I might
give her a visit and offer her my old bike. Not everyone can afford them

Yep, own bikes are going over on the ferry. Staying in cabins,
although I don't mind camping. In fact, we're camping in Esperance for
2 weeks after Christmas and of course we will take all 4 bikes for
transport while we are there. We're meeting the Melbourne branch of
the family there. Unfortunately, they are not real bike people. (They
live on the route of the BR, so BR boys you need to smile and show how
much fun cycling is as you pass their place on Old Warrandyte Road :D
). We have convinced them to take bikes but, so far, its only "we'll
put the kid's bikes in the trailer" - hmmmm, bikes as toys for the
children. Unfortunately not an uncommon attitude. But we're working
on them.
