Could anyone please tell me what a 'Monostay' frame is? I've been looking
around for a new mountain bike and have read a few times in the specs about
this but haven't found out what it actually is.
Is it something worth having on a bike mainly used for road/ light off-road?
Thanks in advance.

The seat stay tubes join a large tube that's then attached to the main
triangle. It's also known as a "wishbone" though it looks like a front
fork welded to the wrong end of the bike.

I think its a gimmick.

IMO, the rack mounting always looked weird on a monostay. My bike's
brake bridge is tapped on the underside for mounting a fender.
