A sign of something.

" Just a few years ago, owning a car was a dream for most people, but now it
has become a reality for many. In year 2004, according to China State
Automobile Industry Associate, over 2 million passenger cars were sold in
China, representing a jump of more than 80% over previous years. This trend
is set to continue with an average rate of 15% year on year growth in car
ownership expected."

To put these numbers in perspective, there were 137,633,000 passenger
vehicles registered in the United states in 2001 (from the current U.S.
Statistical Abstract), plus 84,188 vans, pick-ups and SUV's, 7,858,000
trucks and a bunch of other miscellaneous stuff.

In other words, if every licensed driver in the US went for a drive at the
same time, there would still be plenty of cars and trucks lying around.

hmmmm.

Yes, that's true. In the U.S. there are more vehicles than licensed drivers.
