After a long hiatus and a quadruple bypass op,
my Dad has taken up riding bikes again. Not
wanting to spend up big, he got a second had
rigid MTB to toot around on. Given he lives in
the Adelaide hills, this is pretty brave. Here
he is showing off his "new" steed:

Looks pretty pleased with himself I reckon.

May I at this stage pre-empt any parallels that my be
drawn between bearded, 60+ year old, bike-riding men
with a web presence.

Someone should say it, wouldn't he be happier on a recumbent trike? :)

:-)

>From what I hear, they aren't that bad for going up hills. They often
have much lower gears available and, once you've developed the right
muscles for recumbents which aren't necessarily the same ones you
develop as an upright rider, are as good at spinning up a hill as any
other bike.

I actually think recumbents are kinda cool, and wouldn't mind getting
one some day just for something different.
