I have the opportunity to buy a bike in the US in the near future--is
it likely to be better value for money than buying in Australia? Does
it depend on makes?

Be aware that it will be left hand drive :-)
The brake cables will need to be swapped.

i think the threshold for duties is now $1000 ???

if you are travelling over, take a clanger over with you in box
and return with new steed but make it look 'used'

altoh the usual testride etc will apply so think carefully about the
real 'value' of this perhaps...

I got my litespeed from american bicycle co rather than buying local.
retail price here is 3350 or something and i paid 1900 (after postage,
customs etc)
and yeah, you get used to the brakes, i havent bothered to change them
either..

I've got a US import roadie and a Aus MTB. Caused a few near misses on
the roadie when I've pulled the wrong brake, so if you're used to AU
settings I would definatly swap them back.
