i spent the better part of sunday in NYC at the races. i had my camera with
me and took about 200 photos or so, so i basically had zippo battery or
memory card left by the end. i picked out the best ones, ie: the ones not
victim of 50 kph speed-blur, so feast on these, some of them are actually
quite good i think. i'll likely code up some web-app in the next few days
that will include a photo album format with captions and such, since some of
these photos won't make any sense without one. for now, just point and
click. one last thought, look out for the pigeon.

Some very nice shots there, Shawn. I took the easy way and
watched it on ABC. And what a finish!

J-Album is ready made and quite good if you can run it on your
computer.

Ah, Jon Erdelyi -- he went solo briefly early in the race and ABC TV
was identifying him as the other US champ in the race, Mark McCormack
(I think with a graphic on the screen). I was working for them and
screaming into my mic that it was Erdelyi but they didn't believe me
until he was caught...

Interestingly one of the TV producers kept commenting on how lame the
numbers are in bike races and how they should have rider numbers on
their heads and on a bib on the front of the jersey.

Does anyone know who won the 1/2 race before the Pro race in NYC?

Hey Shawn,
check out: http://gallery.menalto.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=index
all it needs is Apache and PHP, if thats what you run, anyway, nice
and easy web interface for administering (upload, download, delete,
manage photo albums, yada yada) and viewing. I've been using this for
a few years now.

Nice Pics!

HTMLAlbum does this, although it's just sort of a fun project at the
moment. It's available from my free software page below, and requires
Tcl/Tk and a number of extensions (should all be available via
ActiveState's ActiveTcl though).

Dig the worried expression ("I have to race this guy?") on the ONCE rider:

He would fit in right here at RBR. Did he say anything about
crumpled numbers? Numbers on jersey fronts would be unreadable
most of the time even from a moto cam, though.

It is true that it's harder to identify riders when they're all
wearing helmets. Interesting that some sports put names on the
jersey and others don't (soccer also doesn't put names on).
