Hey

I'm moving to New York for 2 months on Saturday (eeek) and I can't take
my bike but I don't want to not ride for that long! It's my first trip
to NYC and I'm going to be staying in Manhattan.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any good places to rent bikes from
or that do organised trails. I've seen a few advertised but I wondered
if anyone had personal experience...

Thanks!

Beth

You'd be better off buying a cheap beater/commuter while your out there.
It will cost less than renting and there are no real MTB trails on the
Island, with the exception of some greenway areas.

Well, if you're referring to LI, then there are trails, plenty of them, but
nothing with elevation to speak of, but plenty of technical riding, only
about 45 minutes from Manhatten. C.L.I.M.B. is currently working on securing
some trails in Staten Island, Queens, Manhatten area. Your best option is to
go to Westchester County area, about 30-45 mins from Manhatten, where you
can tackle Blue Mountain and Sprain Ridge. You get the best of both worlds,
extremely technical and it has plenty of elevation. Bring plenty of water
and food because they are both long trails.

As for renting a bike...here is a list of them:

You can also look up http://newyork.craigslist.com to find a cheapie
beater while you're in our fair city. When your two months are up you
can put it back on Craigslist and see if you can get your money back.
What frame size are you looking for?

Hey all

Thanks for your advice - I'm liking the sound of Westchester County...

Will definitely check out Craigslist, sounds good.

I'm riding a small Chameleon at the moment, think frame size of about
15" works for me...
