After a little research, hey, waddaya know, Mike's half right.
Equus_did_simultaniously evolve in both North America and Europe. But
for reasons varied or unknown, became extinct in NA during the late
Pleistocene. Re-introduced by 15th century Spaniards. And here I
thought Mike was talking through his hat again. Sorry! Tom
