I don't think the freebasing reference was understood either. It looks
like a spoon being held over a flame. You can also melt heroine that way.

Well, free basing is usually in reference to cocaine, although melting
heroine is done in a similar fashion.
I've seen it done with coke, but not smack. One of my high school
friend's older brother was a big coke head. Chances are, he's dead or in
prison now.

But my point was going to be that when melting whatever drug, it
wouldn't typically be done over a pot of something sitting on the camp
stove.

You'd do it over a lighter, preferably one of those Mini Torch "crack
lighter" types.
