View Full Version : Unicycles on School Buses and Communist bus Drivers

Uniman_3
February 24th 07, 01:10 AM
Today i brought my unicycle to school so i could ride after school at
one of the places where our bus driver drops us off at. I got on the
bus in the morning and had my unicycle with me. The bus driver didnt
say anything, maybe because i put it behind the last seat in the bus i
really dont know, and then on the ride home she started telling us (in
a voice like you better not bring those things on again) that we cant
bring SKATEBOARDS or UNICYCLES on the bus because the rules say so and
all of this other crap. Keep in mind though on the way home i had my
unicycle sitting with me instead of behind that backseat...stupid
communist bus driver.... She said the only way we could bring them is
if there was a mounting device outside the bus (i guess kinda like how
city buses got bike racks) then we could bring them, but its on a
school district bus so they probably wouldnt let us install a bike rack
and anyways if your on a bus then i wouldnt even want to mount it
outside the bus. I asked her if she was being discriminate, but she
looked at me like she was gonna get me in trouble or sumthn so i
started laughing. So pretty much she outlawed bringing skateboards and
unicycles on the bus (As was said before she's a communist). I think
that is an unfair thing because a unicycle isnt a full size thing..it
wasnt even in the way. Also skateboards arent in the way either. They
are super small. I brought my trials uni so it wasnt even big and
everyone liked it anyways...
What do you guys think?

enforce have to do with her being a communist. I think I'm missing
something here.

I find that very weird that they won't let you bring your unicycle on a
bus. Like you said a unicycle is smaller/compact. The way i see it,
people with unicycles should be let on public transport. It doesn't
create a distraction. You should try bringing your BMX/MTB on a bus and
if they complain, Say "i told you so" :D :D :D

even if there was a mount on the front of the bus it wouldn't work at
least on a public bus because they are designed to hold a bike.... at
least the ones on the city buses here......

EDIT: call the school district and ask if there is anything in the
school bus rules involving unicycles, if there isn't then you can tell
your bus driver to shove it, because she is wrong.

I took my uni to school. My friends mom took us with our unis. For
stupid human trick thing. But on the way home we did not have a ride,
so we had to take them on the bus. My bus driver made me sit in the
front seat so all my friends sat in the front. So all the littler kids
had no seats. She got mad at me. I bet she was just jelious.

Regardless of whether or not the rules explicitly state no unicycles on
the school bus, your bus driver is NOT out of line to say that you
can't bring it on the bus. The nature of your post on that you call her
a communist really reflects more poorly on you than it does on her.

point made but I'm still thinking, that it wouldn't be too bad to
actually let the bus driver you know your way around the rules and she
can't B.S. you

The bus driver isn't b.s.ing him by telling him he can't bring his
unicycle on the bus. He acts as if the bus driver were out to get him
or something. Name calling doesn't solve anything. He should schedule a
meeting with the principal and explain the situation and allow him to
make a final ruling on whether or not a unicycle should be allowed on
the bus.

The original poster is overreacting a little, but the bus driver is
indeed BSing him since there is (as far as we know) no rule about
bringing a unicycle on the bus.

thank you mr.childs...
There is no stone cold rule that says you cannot bring a unicycle on
the bus..as for skateboards..that i would like to know about too..i
dont want to go home after school and go to the same place the bus
driver dropped me off at if i am gonna go ride...
the thing is its a convince for me too. i wanted to go ride at a spot
afters school and it is much easier for me to bring my unicycle to
school and then get dropped off with it instead of getting dropped off,
going home, loading my stuff up, and then going back to the spot where
i wanted to ride..

One strategy would be to hide the unicycle inside a duffel bag. Use a
large duffel bag that is just large enough to hold a trials unicycle.
You can remove the seat to make it even smaller if necessary.

Then it's no longer a unicycle. Instead it's just a big awkward bag.
School buses generally let you bring on big things like cellos,
trombones, and baritones. If your bus has rules against carrying on
large things like band instruments then you're going to be out of luck
with the unicycle.

That is a really good idea actually...a banjo case would be even better
than a guitar case though, because it has a circular bottom, but you
would need it to be thick enough, and the right diameter...unicycle.com
should make unicycle carrying cases.

The problem is that while there is almost certainly no use of the word
'unicycle' in the bus rules, there is undoubtedly some clause about
being able to deny passengers with overly large or unwieldy lugage
access to the bus, this is of course then open to interpretation. Get
hold of a printed copy of the bus rules, if people try to fob you off
use the line 'well how on earth am i meant to follow the bus rules when
i can't even find out what they are?' at will. Check them carefully for
any clauses about bulky/large luggage items. If kids are allowed to
take cellos etc. (anythign bigger than a unicycle) then you have a case
that your bus driver is discriminating against you for whatever reason,
which is of course illegal. Having found all this stuff out, present
your case to whoever is in charge of this stuff at your school. Don't
get angry, raise your voice or call anyone a communist, just present
the facts objectively and ask what the school intends to do about it.
For god's sake don't let yourself be grouped with bicycles at anytime,
or the argument is as good as lost. Point out that bi- prefix in
bicycle defines it as having two wheels, so it cannot possily be
applied to a unicycle. This is the best course of action if it seems
from the rules that you are really in the right, I know it's a bit
long-winded but using the rules to get back at some overly-officious is
so satisfying.

But in the short term, stick it in a duffle bag.

Do you seriously think Hitler was a communist? I hope not.

And about the bus problem: Put a bag around the wheel, then it is
normal luggage and you can bring it everywhere. (At least that's how it
works in Denmark)

my bus lets me take my uni on the bus i was taking it to school most
days acationaly they said "no bikes are aload" and i just said its not,
i dont think they can stop you taking it on the bus because i dont
think anywhere in the rules say that you cant, most people dont no what
they are and have not even seen one before. I havnt taken it in for a
while now thogh because my school said i couldnt bring it in, what i
thought was funny and almost made me laugh is one of the resons they
said i couldnt bring it ins "if we allow you to ride it in school we
will have to let everyone do it" i almost said find me someone else in
the school that can ride one and i will stop vrining it in but the
teacher wasnt in the best of moods at the time and wouldnt of taken it

You can't take a cello on the bus either and if you're taking a Cello
to/from school it probably IS school related, whereas a unicycle or a
skatebaord is likely not.

She's not a Nazi or a communist for enforcing the rules.

To top that off she can't legally drop you off at a stop other than
yours either without a note from your parent or guardian.

WE can get off at the Library or Pueblo West High School because our
school is way out in the middle of nowhere so i can get off at either
one..
I have thought about Duffel Bags though or maybe just Dissasembling my
unicycle...take out the seat and take off the pedals..then its just a
thing for show and tell...Kids bring Football equipment on during
football season and i hardly ever bring it on the bus. This was the 2nd
time i ever brought it on...
Ill try to get a hold of the rules...If large bulk items arent allowed
how come we got to pick up that kid who is 5foot 7inches and over
300lbs?He takes up 1 seat all by hiself..and when he shares he is
sitting half on and half off.
my teachers are cool..they let me keep it in their rooms..i did a
caveman in front of one of my teachers and she didnt say anything, she
just smiled..it was sweet..
Ok Hitler=Nazi but he ran a communist type socieity....its just a
generalization..everyone knows what i mean..

That's a good idea, almost the right size. But since unicycling is
becoming bigger and they're making quite a few gagdets for them, they
should really make unicycle specific bags that will hold up to a 29"
wheel and not require any disasembling. I for one would buy one.

Hey also, does anybody happen to know the rule for airlines. When they
give you a number that the h+w+l can't be over, what happens if it's a
made to fit bag? Then the top part would be much smaller than the
wheel/bottom part, so how do they calculate that?

they measure the tallest point the longest point and the widest point I
think..... I'm not sure though so don't take my word for it....

nazi = national socialist = extreme nationalism = fascism

communism is on the other side of the political spectrum.

simply speaking, at both extremes of the political spectrum, regimes
can seem somewhat similar in their totalitarianism.

they both rely on having a director with absolute power who enforces a
way of life upon the citizens of the regime.

according to "Wikipedia"

> In modern Western countries, the political spectrum is usually described
> along left-right lines, based on the seating of the liberal and
> conservative members of the Legislative Assembly of France in 1791,
> where liberal and conservative were partly defined by attitudes towards

there are multidimensional models of the political spectrum, however
the way i tend to look at things is imagining the political spectrum as
something of a horseshoe shape with communism on one end, naziism on
the other and more moderate views towards the middle- conservatism on
the middle right and labour (uk parliamentary parties) on the middle
left. liberal democrats are supposed to be closer to the centre, but
tending towards the left a little i think.

..... aaaanyways, did you ask her about her rationale for preventing
your boarding the bus with the unicycle? from what i can imagine,
reasons may range from safety (if she thinks it is unsafe due to it
taking on a life of its own and holding the members of the bus
hostage)

...to issues with space (she may invoke an argument running along the
lines of 'the larger the object, the more related to school activities
it must be', which would allow your 300lb school colleague; as he
wouldn't be able to participate in any school activity without himself,
and instruments such as keyboards, pianos, drum kits etc.)

...to a deep seated psychological fear of unicycles due to some
horrible scarring she got in childhood of seeing a scary looking clown
clowning around on a unicycle (in which case you must insist that you
are curing her of her fear by getting the scariest looking unicycle you
could possibly find with pinned pedals and big fat scary looking nobbly
tire and exposing it to her for a short period of time. of course,
because she is driving the bus, i would be careful of this one. her
jitters could cause her to drive rather erratically which would be
dangerous for you.)

i would suspect that her unwillingness to let you board the bus may lie
more in the aforementioned reasons as opposed to her particular
ideologies, but we will never know unless she is prepared to share her
reasons with you. jumping to conclusions and branding her with
unfounded allegations as to her political allegiance is just as bad as
her accusing you of being a terrorist attempting to board a school bus
with a weapon of mass destruction. has she done this? if so, i would
not suggest stooping to her level. use your superior intelligence and
charm to win her over.

peace

shall i dignify that with a response? Damnit! i just did

ooh, and @ epistolize, great post man, great post. The only thing is, i
would say that the political spectrum is a near circle, with a small
gap inbetween the far right and the far left
