View Full Version : Using Tracklogs

I've started using Tracklogs to plan my routes. In the standard
components toolbox there are 2 tools which I can't figure out. They
are fixed map insert and offset map insert. I cannot find anything in
the help file. Another thing I was wondering is can I draw a route I
have done and put photos into it as a record of my rides. All help on
these subects very welcome.

Fixed insert: Acts as a kind of magnifying glass you can place over any
part of the route and see in close-up. Drag a Fixed Insert onto the map.
You'll probably see a blurred mass of colour in it, because (for reasons
that escape me) by default it shows the 1:1 million scale map. So,
select the Fixed Insert object you've just created, then click on the
"attributes" tab over on the right of the screen. Change the "Dataset"
attribute to read "1:50,000". Change the "Zoom" attribute beneath that
to be "2". You'll now see that the area under the Fixed Insert has been
magnified to twice normal size.

Of course that means part of the original area now can't be seen: you've
covered it over with a magnified view of the centre part.

More useful is the Offset Insert. This is essentially the same, but uses
two rectangles. One you place over the area of the map you want
magnified. The other you drag out to an uninteresting area of the map,
away from your route. Now you'll find you can change the attributes of
that second rectangle to show a magnified version of the area in the
first rectangle. Oddly, if your tracklog route passes through the
rectangle, it WON'T show up in the magnified version.

If that doesn't make sense, email me (remove the snoozes from the
address) and I'll try and explain it better. Trial and error is the way
to understand it.

Yeah, great product but useless documentation - and a few really
annoying bugs.

....[etc.]

Whoops, sorry everyone, forgot which newsgroup I was in for a minute.
What I *meant* to say was:

Cars! Evil! Speed limits! Wooargh! Traffic lights! Murderers! Nazi speed
bumps! H*lm*ts! Good! Bad! Trolls! Cheap prices now on Gucci Lacoste
Nike Prada!!

There, that's better.

I've come across very few, if any, bugs but I would agree that the
documentation is useless. It's one of the few pieces of software that I
find good enough to make me boot up the Windows PC.

Cheers,
