Do you understand what a "warm beer" is?

It is a beer that is at the temperature some twenty feet under a
London Pub.
Maybe the low 60s.

Take some real drinking liquid, like John Smith Bitter, at that
temperature
and you're into true drinking.
The pubs can now pick their closing time, so there aren't mobs of
yobs all going onto the streets at the same time, so fewer fights.
I'd rather be inBrum, anyhow (he said, ducking.)
fights, I hear.

You can take John Smith Bitter at whatever temperature you like provided
it's still liquid. The drains don't really care, and that's the only place
it deserves to be...

I didn't think this joke was much good, but i have to admit that it's
done pretty well at pulling the completely-didn't-get-it crowd out of the
woodwork.

Embarressed to have missed.
My only excuse / reason is that I was sober, have been here for almost
a decade, and complete withdrawl from office banter. (Note to self:
Must go back to Midlands this summer.)

Obviopusly, it's to see the people, not the scenery, although I must
admit watching the new lambs learning to walk in the fields of the A45
green belt between Brum and Cov made the commute worthwhile.

Even John Smiths is better than Budweiser. It's impressive how something
quite so ghastly manages to have such a market - it saps my faith in

The "brewed-in-the-UK-under-licence" stuff is indeed no better than any other
cooking lager.

But the USA-brewed article (as served in the UK on USAAF bases, having been
flown in in bottles) is pretty darned good - not to be compared to stuff
hatched in giant tanks in Runcorn.

I had the misfortune of drinking a bottle-shaped can of "Bud lite" while in
the US. It confirmed all my prejudices about US beer. Fortunately subsequent
investigations revealed there's actually a fairly strong proper beer
industry, producing stuff which is actually drinkable rather than the
mass-produced tat.

Budweiser Budvar to give it its correct full name. A marvellous brew.

Anchor Steam Beer (brewed in San Francisco) is marvellous stuff. If you're

John Smiths Cask isn't bad at all,
but it's not widely distributed.

It was very nice when I had it in Tadcaster.

In the UK it is on sale under the name of Budvar. I was led to believe
that they have to distribute under this name as, although it was
originally called "Budweiser" the brand name was somehow "acquired"
decades ago by Anheuser Busch of St. Louis, Missouri, who, naturally
will not release it back. While my opinion is naturally subjective I
believe that Budvar knocks spots of the US chemical concoction. It's a
classic Czech.Bohemian Pilsener beer that tastes sublime - IMHO :-))

claim to the name.
