Clare and I completed the C2C Whitehaven to Tynemouth Castle bike ride
yesterday.

Day 1:
Blackheath to Euston: 15.38 Km (9.6 miles); 269m ascent
Whitehaven to Threlkeld: 60.43 Km (37.5 miles); 1327m ascent
Day 2:
Threlkeld to Nenthall: 73.14 Km (45.4 miles); 1624m ascent
Day 3:
Nenthall to Castleside: 49.38 Km (30.7 miles); 1171 ascent
Day 4:
Castleside to Tynemouth: 50.67 Km (31.5 miles); 687m ascent
Tynemouth to Newcastle: 19.23 Km (11.9 miles); 275m ascent
Day 5:
King's Cross to Blackheath: 15.33 Km (9.5 miles); 258m ascent

Total C2C: 233.62 Km (145 miles); 4809m ascent
5 day total: 283.56 Km (176 miles); 5611m ascent

I wanted us to do the C2C on our tandem - Clare preferred her own
bike: Clare had her way.

The four day C2C is certainly a great ride. We stayed in B&Bs along
the route, all pre-booked, and had sufficient time to enjoy the
scenery and wildlife. I was fortunate to see a red squirrel in the
Lake District, and a hare on Middlehope Moor.

The weather was generally good for the time of year, but we did have
gales and driving rain on Hartside Fell. Fortunately the wind was
usually behind us.

Nice one. Glad it all went OK.

I only did a few miles this weekend .. mostly muddy and wet, but
wonderful crisp air. Did some night forest riding too ... very
strange. Clear skies and in clearings the starlight was almost like
daylight!

A mate and I are thinking (for loose values of thinking) of doing a
'diagonal' .. Fleetwood to Boston .. I have friends in Fleetwood, he
has family in Boston!
