After intensive lobbying, much led by me, the Royal Parks have removed
the narrow 2-way cycle lane on the footway alongside The Avenue which
is a steep hill.

The east footway is to be made shared use, the expectation being that
slower uphill cyclists will use the footway and faster downhill
cyclists use the road. Park regualtions sensibly allow children under
10 to use any footway or footpath in the park.
In June 2007 Lennard Woods was killed when a motorist drove his car
into him on the wrong side of the road. Despite pleading guilty for
causing death by dangerous driving, the motorist escaped a prison
sentence, and was instead fined.
