So when you get a new front wheel with dynamo hub for your Brompton,
don't wonder what the odd blue plasticy strip thing in the package is.

Look at it and think about it *before* you put the tyre and tube from
the old wheel onto the new one.

it is what is called a "rim tape" and brand new wheels don't have one.

Working this out in the beginning will mean you don't have to get
that bloody Marathon Plus off *again* with much swearing and ping!ing
of tyre levers as they fly across the room to remove tube and fix
the puncture caused by lack of said rim tape.

Nor will you have to get the still absolutely bloody Marathon Plus
back on again, after you have faffed about with the tube that
apparently doesn't want to properly deflate and definitely doesn't
want to get back in under that previously mentioned bloody Marathon
Plus.

At least the light works much better than I expected it would, seeing
as it's peeping out from under the largish touring bag on the front
luggage block.

Oh and the discounted Park Tools stand from Torpedo 7 is brilliant.
Manages the 'bent as well as the Brom and makes maintenance so much
easier. I might even do some...

Come on Zebee, are you telling me you didn't know bicycles need rim
tape too?
I agree about the plastic stuff looking a bit different. I prefer the
good old rubber myself.

No, I knew.

It's just that when the only times you have put tyres/tubes onto a
wheel the rim tape was already there, the fact a new rim won't have
some and so the blue thing is important doesn't register.

Yeah, if it is black and rubbery it does look more obvious.

The first time I got a flat on my Cali II I discovered there was no
rim tape. On either wheel as it turned out. I was not impressed.
