With his only professional wins, since he turned pro in 2004, being with
Léopard-Trek, in team time trials (La semaine internationale Coppi et
Bartali in 2010, and stage 1 of the Tour d'Espagne in 2011), the
TellLander Zaugg, on the start line, would have seemed an unlikely choice
for winner of a classic that he only decided to race at the last minute.

But after Nibali strutted his stuff on the Madonna di Ghisallo loop and
the race settled down for a while, approaching the top of the
Villa Vergano climb, Zaugg surged away in an all or nothing attack.
Descending like a demon he got 15 seconds on a five man group (D.Martin,
Pozzovivo, Basso, Niemec, Rodriguez) and held them off to cross the line
solo with 8 seconds to spare.

Well done

Yeah but did he come out of the West with the best bicycle available?
