Have they caught this motorist? Happened this morning.

What I meant to say was that the above link has a comment from a very famous
person.
Go look and thumbs up.

The difference between that and an accident involving a cyclist is of
course that the victim in that accident or any motor vehicle accident
where the driver absconds or is uninsured is still covered by the
Motor Insurers' Bureau to whom all legal motorists contribute. They
will at least get some financial compensation for their injuries.
Someone injured by a cyclist who runs off or is uninsured gets not a
penny.

Don't bother with the thumbs up on that link yet.

Cyclists would claim that the Fridge Freezer Insurers Bureau would cover it.

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme has a minimum claim of
£1,000, claims below this will not be entertained. It is also only
for personal injury so most cycle induced accidents are excluded
despite the loss suffered by the victim.

QUOTE:
A 33-year-old man died in a hit-and-run road accident in south London
this morning, police have confirmed.
Now Scotland Yard is appealing for help tracing the car driver who
failed to stop at the scene of the crash in Streatham.
The fatal collision happened in Tooting Bec Road at the junction with Dr
Johnson Avenue, shortly after 3am. Police and paramedics raced to the
scene but the pedestrian was pronounced dead.
Police believe they know the identity of the dead man and have told his
next of kin, but formal identification has not yet taken place.
Det Sgt Phil Hames said: "I need to hear from anyone who witnessed the
collision or has information - including reports of a car which
sustained unexplained frontal damage overnight - that may help identify
the driver or the vehicle involved."

That's odd.

It doesn't mention his bike anywhere. That's a peculiar detail to omit,
isn't it?

Is the likelihood that the car reg. plate is correct and traceable or
not, is the likelihood that the car is insured or not?
Compare that to cyclists, are any of them identifiable and traceable?
Are the majority of them insured against third party liabilities?

But I've already said that I agree there should be some sort of
traceable identification on *any* road vehicle.

But I've already said that I agree there should be some sort of
traceable identification on *any* road vehicle.

You don't have to wait for legislation to kick in before you can achieve
that.
If you really believed what you are saying, you would already have some sort
of clear ID securely affixed to your bike, that can be read from 20.5
metres.
But I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that you haven't.

So what central registration authority do I associate it with?
You're really scraping the desperado barrel with your mindless talk.

It is never too late to start crashing into people and things, so why do

So have plenty of other drivers. You are nothing special.
Few drivers will go to lengths to defend their shocking and law breaking
driving at 120mph, but you did.
Few drivers will go to lengths to defend their shocking and law breaking
habit of jumping red traffic lights because they cannot see anything coming,
but you did.
You are less of a hazard to people riding your bicycle on some dirt track
than you are driving a car.

If I crashed into something/someone, I always carry identification and
am not the sort to leg it, so totally unnecessary in my instance.
I always carry my phone and my driving licnce and have my postcode
stamped under the bike, where the police recommend it to be stamped.

So what central registration authority do I associate it with?

House number and postcode would be sufficient.

Why would I need to, I'm not a thug and I have a conscience. Are you
trying to associate me with your label as a phycolist?
I've had full no claims for 51 years and never been nicked or had an
accident of *any* sort. You?

Then why make the claim that " I agree there should be some sort of
traceable identification on *any* road vehicle"?
You may not be a thug, but you certainly know how to wriggle.

Would you put your house No. and postcode on your car instead of a
registration plate then? How foolish if you did.
You'd effectively be advertising where you live and leave yourself wide
open to burglars/car thieves etc.
What it needs is a proper registration system, like motor vehicles have.

Wot! How is wanting a proper registration system like cars etc have?
I was certainly not wriggling. I made it perfectly clear.
It is you who is being pendantic and suggesting I advertise exactly
where I live to all and sundry.
Does your car advertise your *exact* address, if not, why not?
