A charity cyclist who was lucky to survive after getting knocked off his bike by a car in America will soon be getting back in the saddle on a bike made specially for him.

Josh Quigley (27) said he was lucky to be alive after the 70-mile an hour accident in Texas on December 21 and only returned to his home in Livingston last week following the accident.

He had been on the last leg of a round the world trip for charity when he was seriously injured but pledged to get back on his bike to complete his epic journey.

And to help, Livingston-based specialist cycle manufacturer Shand are gifting Josh a bespoke bike to complete his task.

Shand manufactures and assembles hand-built, bespoke bikes from its workshop at Houston Industrial Estate.

Josh said he is delighted to receive the specially-made bike and thanked the company for their generosity.

He said: “I’m very excited to be working with Shand Cycles and very grateful to them for building me a new custom-built bike.

It's very impressive that he was cycling at 70 mph.

What, though, is a "charity cyclist"?

Josh was 16,000 miles into his adventure, which began in April 2019, when he was hit by a car travelling at 70mph in Texas while cycling the trans-American leg of his journey shortly before Christmas.

Following a month in hospital in Texas, Josh flew back to the UK at the end of last week and has already set his sights on returning to America in April to complete the final 2000 miles of the journey. His plans to finish at Edinburgh Castle.

GOOD LUCK!
