I'm waiting for my santacruz bullit to arrive, as winter is coming and as i
will use mainly on road by the beginning i was thinking about using a
semislick tire like the maxxis hookworm on the wtb laserdisc dh rims, what
you think about it, sounds that crazy???

Hookworm is great for urban stuff, as well as park riding. I'm assuming the
bullit is going to be used mainly for that purpose... if its not, then sell
it, it ain't the right bike for ya.

It's really odd that there are so few urban tires out there. I'm sure there
there's quite a market for fat slicks.... I'm looking for a pair myself, but
$60/pair? These are tires that are supposed to be thick-treaded,
hard-compound rubber for longevity... not superlight race tires.

So far there's the Schwalbe Big Apple (which nobody carries), the Maxxis
Hookworm (which is expensive), and the Kenda K-Rad, which hasn't been
released to retailers yet, I don't believe.

Any other alternatives (larger than 2.2 or 2.3)?

You misunderstood me (granted, its probably my fault - yesterday was
homecoming) - the Bullit is a great urban/freeride bike. I was just worried
you were intending to use it for just riding around on the roads, maybe with
some curb drops thrown in. More than a few guys I know use and love bullits
for urban.

Oh, i understand, probably it was me faulty (i'm italian and my english is
so and so...). However, the bike should arrive shortly, within a month and
an half and will be my first bike since soooooo long so i'll need little
pratice before trying to change tires by myself (there are no bike mechanics
over here) and i know that the wtb laserdisc dh rims are not easy in doing
the put/pull tire operation.
I think that the bullit with those large tires looks awesome, like a
supermotard bike, more, mine is black, will look even better!!!

Bye jon

Yeah, I agree. There should be a market for 2.1" to 2.35" slicks or
semi-knobbies with city-proof tread and Kevlar belts. We're starting to see
a trickle of them now.

Many/most tire mfr's make 26 x 1.9 "city" tires; but the fatter sizes aren't
so common.

> So far there's the Schwalbe Big Apple (which nobody carries)

Order them direct from Schwalbe online:

http://www.schwalbetires.com/on_tour.php

The 26 x 2.35" Schwalbe Big Apple has a max recommended inflation of 55psi.
I wonder if it rolls easily at such a low pressure (for city riding, that
is). Low recommended pressure is 20 psi. Man, that's *low*.

$27 each at JensonUSA.com

Yeah, looks like Nashbar.com has the 1.95" K-Rad for $15 each. Is there
supposed to be a fat version coming soon? Looks like a good all-around
tire.

Not that I've seen. The Hookworm seems to be well loved - but it's *heavy*.
I guess tire weight doesn't matter much when you're walking home with a nail
through your tire, or trying to change a tire in the rain. No fun when it's
cold.

I just picked up a set of Hookworms for my Bullit for urban riding. Haven't
had a chance to check 'em out yet.

Mike - BTW, I am crazy. ;^)

If you want to ride street, get a trials bike, otherwise, that's a waste of
a Bullit.

The worst time that I ever had changing a tire was when I had broken my
wrist and I was bored from not being able to ride, so I stupidly decided to
attempt to throw a new set of wire bead Intense DH tires on my Bullit. Well,
it cause me severe grief, cursing and psychological problems, but about 6
hours later and many calluses on my left hand (right wrist was the damaged
one), I did hit.

Nope. I have big fat Intense DH's on my Bullit. Its not about how the bike
looks, its about how it rides and mine rides like its on rails when its
pointed downwards.
