Once they'd gotten the message, we were able to just kick back and talk
about all our old times together.
The crew in the RBR newsgroup recollected about the time Magilla was a
private and the Admiral was just a midshipman, and I was still only the
second or third most ****ed-up adolescent alive.

As we got more and more sloppy sentimental, I finally let out the big dream
I'd been harboring for so long: you know, the one where car crash racing is
suddenly declared a world Olympic-class sport, and nobody can get enough of
it.

Since they both seemed pretty excited by the idea, and since I didn't have
any drugs left or any money, there was no reason to stop talking.

"First off," I began, "The cars are designed not for speed, not for
maneuverability, but aerodynamically -- so when they crash, they flip over
30 or 40 times in the most unique and graceful patterns of airborne
self-destruction.

"And the winner of the race is not necessarily the one who finishes first,
but the one who has flipped over the most times and in the most visually
elegant and emotionally appealing fashion -- as rated by a panel of expert
judges on a scale of 1 to 10, like diving or floor exercises."

As I wrapped up my proposal, I could hear them both, in the background,
jumping up and down and high-fiving each other over the phone lines.
