What do you think David Millar will do after the season. I figure he
will leave Confidis. He is an intresting case as he is not an overall
contender but he can win stages. I think he might be most attractive to
teams looking for a boost in TTT? Maybe this is too early to be talking
about, but people ask me if Lance will win six and then the TTT comes up
and you have to wonder if David Millar could help a team there.

Oddly enought that's not what he thinks, but then I guess he's
"unpredictable", so...

There are much talk in danish media about him joining the CSC team.

He sees himself as a team leader and will probably end up with a lower
profile outfit that will be all too happy to kiss his prima donna ass.

Wow. I'm glad the Tour de France is over and these sort of vague
posts that imply that everything in cycling is about the Tour de
France (Millar has won at least one pro stage race overall) will end.

Equipe is reporting that Millar extended his contract with Cofidis for two
more years.

Ahh, and why should I care what people in Britain care about regarding
bike racing?

You shouldn;t but Millar probably does. I never said that Millar was a
bad bike rider. I was simply saying why he might go to certain teams and
I think the tour will be the primary motivation behind any move or non
move. If he stays with Confidis it may be because he can be the team
leader there. For confidis he is valuable becuase he gives them at least
a 50% chance of an early yellow and 75-80% chance of a stage win. I
think Confidis wants him for the tour not something else.

????

For a guy who hasn't done much more than bad mouth his team in the
press and vice versa, this is odd. Serious dysfunction here-hmmmm.

I think there is going to be some major house cleaning at Cofidis or
Millar's attitude has limited his options. Usually riders win big and
then develop poor attitudes (Vainsteins, Aitor, VDB, etc...). Millar
has already got it-risky situation for any team especially for the $$$
Millar wants. Cofidis must like the publicity.

There has been major housecleaning at Cofidis, which had to be part of the
reason why Millar decided to stay. Alain Bondue was replaced as director
sportif.

Bondue was fired a few weeks ago, which is what Millar wanted. That's
one reason he's willing to stay.

THE FORCE knows about this situation because he has been in a situation
where he didn't like team management and was able to use his ample influence
to get the manager canned.

The sponsors of the team wanted to keep THE FORCE on the squad at all costs.

FORCE - may the YOU be with you!

Being the head honcho is a pretty good deal. How many other riders get
to dictate what happens on their teams. Lance, Cipo anyone else?

Millar strikes me as a totally self-absorbed egocentric guy, always
going off about himself and his various plights (I should know,
I do more than my fair share, but not on TV). For example, his interview
as the ambulance carrying Beloki drove by and he had to move his bike,
he looked at the ambulance and was started saying something, then went back
to his own little world and its concerns.

Also, his mechanical in the prologue. I think Bondue was quite correct
in pointing out that Millar insisted on removing the front derailleur,
which is well known to lead to chain drop, so shouldn't have been
whining to everyone about bad team equipment. Anyway, cycling is a
mechanical sport, so equipment failure comes with the territory, and
should be accepted (though Bernaudeau was still complaining about a missed
shift on the Alpe d'Huez that cost him the stage 20 years ago).
Apparently, the
Bondue firing was due to him trying to control everything at Cofidis,
but after seeing the documentary about the 2001 Cofidis Tour de France,
you realise how much work the guy was doing for his riders. However,
the French don't like to fire people so he was promoted.
