We're on the same wave length -- I was mentally composing another version of
my saga to this tune while in the shower -- and now I found you beat me to
it.
Alas, I wish it had been cheap crap from Bell. Instead, it was a Cat Eye
TL-LD600.

To the tune of "I left my heart in San Francisco":
I lost my blinkie
On Second Av'nue
I hit a bump -- it flew away
Then a city metro bus
Crunched it; let me cuss
It was cheap, it wasn't rare
I don't care!
My blinkie's crushed
On Second Av'nue
I will mourn its loss, and heave a sigh
When I buy a new, replacement blinkie
The old will always shine in mem-o-ry!

Lost a few like that. Is there a corollary to Murphy's law that
whenever you lose a blinkie there's a vehicle ready to pulverize it?
Two of the three I lost were ground up like that. The third smashed on
impact -- I only ever found one battery...

or a limerick:
there once was a blinkie from seattle
whose bracket had started to rattle
a flight it did take
but wound up a pancake
mister gravity won the last battle

(to the tune of "On Top of Spaghetti")
In downtown Se-att-le
All covered with rain
I lost my poor blinkie
Now ain't that a pain?
It fell off the fen-der
And onto the ground
And then a bus crushed it
It'll never be found.
So farewell old blinkie
You served me so well.
But this always happens
With cheap crap from Bell.

Heh! I might have found it! Just before going beneath an unlit double overpass
one wet and miserable night last winter, I saw a red flash on the path ahead.
Followed by another a second or two later. I slowed down and rolled on until I
was abreast of the flashing. It was a wet, salt- and sand-encrusted blinkie,
cracked and otherwise the worse for wear. Apparently it had vibrated loose
from, and fallen off, a vehicle on the interstate highway above. It was still
doing its thing. I took it home, wiped it off, and put it on the bedroom
chest. That sucker kept going for many weeks. When it finally succumbed I gave
it a decent burial.

....and finally, my .02$:
Thanks to whomever lost the blinkie on the Alex Fraser Bridge February last,
it was still in good working order (rechargeable batteries and all) when I
came along and picked it up. How lucky I was that it fell on the walkway
and not into the river!

What are you? The NG proofreader. I farted on my first blinkie
while I was flirting with the blinkie salesman.

A well-executed haiku is rooted in the physical world of our senses, yet
suggests something deeper, often evoking the mysterious, transitory nature
of all existence. By invoking the images of spring, of grey potholes perhaps
filled with rain, and contrasting that the bright blinkie turning to shards
of plastic, we are rewarded not just with the required kigo of haiku, but
its satori moment of the blinkie's destruction. We are left with a feeling
of melancholy, the shunshu of spring.
