View Full Version : FS: Thorn Me'n'U2

We're changing to a Bike Friday tandem,as Michael is now big & strong
enough to make his own way. So: for sale, one Thorn Me'n'U2 double
childback triplet. Look at Pete's face in this picture (he's the one
on the back!):

http://www.chapmancentral.co.uk/web/public.nsf/images/gchn-63rrun/$file/DSC_0031.jpg

Red, 2,000 miles approx, has optional rack (Thorn "531" steel rack,
the good one) and lasercut light rear bracket, drag brake, double
stems (to suit tall dad & shorter mum - takes just a couple of minutes
to swap over), flag, SKS mudguards, Panaracer tyres, 21 speed with
granny gear. Shifters are standard thumb-operated (not twist or
rapid-fire). Triple chainset, toecups on stoker pedals (which have
double-drilled cranks), Shimano PD-M324 reversible on the front. Sun
Rhyno 48-spoke 26" wheels on Shimano LX tandem hubs, Acera 8-speed
compatible rear mech (7-speed cassette fitted), Suntour X front.

Included: Pendle tandem carrier with SJSC triplet extension bar and
additional third upright, with new roofbar clamps and all straps.

The bike is in very good condition, no dents or noticeable corrosion,
wheels still true.

I have no idea how much this bike is worth. It was £1650 new in April
2003 including the carrier, it's always been kept indoors (when not
being ridden). Full spec on request.

We've climbed double-chevron hills on this bike, and descended similar
(at 42mph, according to Michael). It's been to France twice, the York
rally, camping in the New Forest, and of course it's done the school
run.

Test rides no problem, located in Reading, Berks. Buyer collects or
shipping at cost (weighs 40lb+!). Roof carrier included, as noted
above, so collection should be practicable as long as you have Thule
or similar roofbars. Steel roofbars recommended.

Folks, we love this bike, but there is not room in the bike shed for
it, Michael's new bike, the recumbent now the Brom is being used to
commute, /and/ the new tandem - two more bikes since this was taken
http://www.chapmancentral.co.uk/web/public.nsf/bikeshed4.jpg!OpenImageResource
plus the tandem, which is not yet here.

Let's see it got to a good home.

Email guy dot chapman at spamcop dot net.

Note: this bike neither folds nor unfolds. Unlike the new Brompton.
Did I mention the new Brompton? But it is *huge* fun - beats the crap
out of driving to school - and of course it beats seven kinds of crap
out of having one child whingeing because they can't keep up or the
other moaning because they have to slow down. Perfect for control
freaks everywhere, no worries about the little darlings forgetting to
LOOK BEHIND BEFORE GOING ROUND THAT CAR!!!!

I can't look at that pic without the Goodies theme tune springing into
my mind.

Incase it helps with pricing, one was listed very recently on Ebay. I
noticed at the time that the seller actually linked to your website in
his sales blurb.

And if anyone wants a cheaper alternative, we're selling our Pashley U+2.
Current plan says see what Kevin at D.Tek can give for it part exchange,
and possibly put it on eBay with that as a reserve. I saw one go on eBay
for £300 not very long ago.

Not as nice as the triplet, but we've enjoyed it.

Oh if only we hadn't just moved house and used up all the spare
cash..... (though DD2 at 7 months has rather short legs for stoker just
yet....)

Sold to the nice Scottish gentleman. Sandy, you will be seeing this
bike in the near future as his first planned trip is around your
little bit of heaven.

Ask him to come and see me - I'd love to see the machine.

A bit late, it seems - he went there this weekend!

And the nice Scottish gentlemen emailed me after reading about my
Me'n'u2, which I only bought after reading about Guy's. Which was a nice
bit of circular cycling.
