View Full Version : Child Seat Installation Problem

I have a bike where I installed a blackburn rack and put a copilot limo
child seat on it. It has really worked out well.

I bought a second bike (a trek mountain bike) and I bought the same
blackburn rack for it. I was hoping to just take the co-pilot limo
child seat and put it on whichever bike i wanted to ride that day.

Problem is this - when I go to slide the child seat into the rack so
that it locks in, the seat post (actually the part that holds the seat
and post) is in the way. If the post was an inch or 2 more forward, it
would be fine. But the way it is now, it blocks the child seat from
locking in.

Other problem is that you can't just move the rack back an inch or 2
because it would no longer be level.

I think I'm out of luck, but figured someone might have come across
this situation before and have a fix for it? Thank you.

Sounds like the issue is that the rack mounts on the dropouts of your bike
are too far forward. I'm unfamiliar with the options but I believe there
are clamps that allow racks to be installed on bikes without rack mounts.
Maybe such a thing would help in this case. Try a knowledgable bike shop.
