Hello Michelle.
I believe we met a number of times years ago in Sydney with the cycle
institute crowd, on rides and at party's.
I read your news post about Ross.
During the '80's Ross and I were flatmates at a number of places mostly
around Darlinghurst, when he was in Sydney.
First met him in '85 when he just got back from touring South America and
was sharing a house with my then boyfriend, Al.
I wasn't into cycling then and thought he was a little strange, with the way
he talked about and looked at life.
We used to sit around after work and talk and I vividly remember one
saturday night after I'd known Ross a few weeks.
An English couple who shared the house was talking about driving around
Australia and asked Ross what he knew, Big mistake, We spent all night
talking about places to go a where to get work,
Ross had maps laid out on the floor and was showing then places to camp and
places to stay away from,
Over about 3 hours he took them right around Australia while they were
taking notes on a pad and marking their map.
I just could'nt believe that he'd been to all these places on a bicycle,
I asked him about South America and out came more maps and beers and we all
spent the whole night talking about places we'd been or wanted to go,
I hadn't been anywhere except Melbourne, but Al and Ross were from New
Zealand and had both been around Australia, Al wasn't into cycling and had
hitchhiked. Besides south America, Ross had cycled New Zealand and India
The English couple had been around Europe and stopped over in Singapore.
I was 19 and hadn't even thought about going anywhere, nowdays I think of
that night as the night I woke up
A couple of weeks later Ross borrowed a bike for me from one of his friends
and I went with him on a days ride through the Royal nat. park. after that I
was hooked,
Following week I went bike shopping with Ross and bought a Clarmont with
full touring kit for a bit under $600 from Clarence st cycles, it was a lot
of money for me and Al and my friends thought I was nuts.
Ross was on and off in Sydney over the next few years and we stayed
in contact, He stayed with me late '86 after you met him in Indonesia,
again mid '87 before he went to Europe and again mid '88 after he came back.
In '88 I did one tour with him, I met him at Perth airport when he flew back
into the country and we spent 7 weeks riding through the desert next to the
railway line across to Adelaide then up to Broken Hill and Sydney.
That was more of a walk than ride in places.
We got ourselves on television when we spent 2 days with a french film crew
doing a program on Diddier ???? trying to windsurf across the nullabor on
a board with wheels.
Never seen the program or heard anything about it, we rode faster than they
were going, so maybe they never made it,
Other than that we went out on day tours around Sydney during the time we
stayed together and put together a few routes for the bicycle inst.
They still have phamplets for some of them .
Ross got married in '89 and last I heard ( 2001) they live in northen
Victoria, but spend most of their time in Thailand
He's not involved in the cycling scene here in Sydney,
Would be great to catch up with him.
..Would also be good to see you again, I'm in Sydney and cycling quite
often, let me kow if your interested.
best wishs.

Hello Susan I trie to send this but it returns many
times.
I am excited to read your email on cycling news page,
I type Ross name in search and your letter come up.
I also have good memory of ross from 18 year ago when he came to rotterdam
I met him when he work illegal on the tulup farm same as me at leiden he
only work 3 days before government come looking for illeagels and many
people have to leave,
my family like hime very much and he stay with us 4 days in rotterdam before
he ride to luxembourg ,
In australia I find him next year in brisbane and we stay 2 week before we
ride south to work on farm picking fruit, very happy time
I do not like the farm life much and went back to brisbane. last letter I
have come from koh samui in thailand in 1991 where he says hes married and
may not return to australia,
my own married last only 3 year before my husband find another, but last 2
year I have boyfriend and his children and mine get on very well,
everything work out good.
on internet I find ross name in cycle news and koh samui land and invest ,
so I think he is still there
one day would be good to have holiday and meet him again to see what happen
with his life.
I always think of good times with him when camping in the tent or outside on
dark nites under the stars, I ride sometime with my children in the hills
near brisbane for camping and my boyfriend takes the car but never long
trips anymore, if you come to brisbane my email is ,
would be happy to see you and maybe if you want place to stay send your
email and I will give phone number,

hey get over it.
I've been following these news posts over the last couple of weeks and I'm
sure someone would have told him by now,
You girls are sounding like a lot of middle age women sitting around
compareing your favorite orgasm.
I met Ross when he joined the big ride for a couple of legs through
Victoria way back in 1982.
Young, shy, and very attractive compared to the rest of the crowd then.
I grabbed him straight away and wont forget those first 2 nights in his tent
riding each other and trying to be quiet
Ross came out with our group on rides for a couple of years, always around
new year, when he was working close to the city,
He was never much into the cycle scene so I was surprised when he started
doing stuff with the Sydney mob,
who knows where he is now maybe back in new zealand,
I've ben involved with cycling for over 30 years now, havent heard any
menion of Ross for the last 10, why the sudden interest?

I see where your coming from and yes I'll be on the Warby trip, weather permiting.
To answer your first question, a long time ago, I've been doing some sleuthing around, this guy has me intrigued.
unless hes an artist or doctor the only ref's I can find to him are through these news groups from a few weeks back when some bloke from singapore was asking on this group and a investment one if anyone had his contact details
..Anyone know of address phone email or contact to locate Ross and his thai wife wife Urn of mae num, koh samui
I'm interested in leaseing land in the mae num , bo phut area and believe they have substancial holdings along the foothills with views of the beach and koh phangarn ,,
Have been told they live most of the year in new zealand
my understanding is they are willing to do 10 - 30 year lease agreements for ecologically sound developments, have tried local estate agents who refered me to CoCo international as a group they are involved with , unfortunately their local reps would not discuss anyone they may do business with,
believe they have family in mae num area but during my short stay could not locate them but
have been told they may be on koh samui during the upcoming blues festival as they have some ties with that but again noone will disclose any information
my email is...
anyone knowing Ross or Urn please Email me or pass my email to them, so we can arrange a meeting
Peter Ward ... singapore
From reading through the posts a bloke named Harry seems pretty sure hes running some bike tours in Thailand, and has a farm on Koh Samui,
heard he lives on a farm near surat thani but havent seen him for couple of years I have a number for his family in N.Z. but he's usually in australia ,
cycled with ross from hua hin to surat thani back in 85, when he was on his way to samui, we were both doing thailand,
try the highland mountain tours at lamai, he started that about 10 years ago and they tell me he still goes on the rides
I tracked down 2 bike tour places on Koh Samui and looked through their websites neither mention him,
I think I'll be real nosey and email them and mention your name,
I emailed and she's in Adelaide and doing research on bicycle touring in Oz and has been told that your mate did some other long hauls through the outback like the other favorite orgasm girl posted........

your all just mean...
you wait.... I now have more goals in life - all interconnected,
1- pitch my new ad campain to toyota.. RAV4 - MY FAVORITE ORGASM,
ditch the camels and feature nubile young ladies driving around moaning and
groaning etc. you get the picture.
money generated from that will be used for....
2 - new reality show spin off of Mike Munro's - THIS IS YOUR LIFE - again
simply called ' my favorite orgasm,'
featuring Mike surprising guys on the the steet ( in his imitable camera in
the face style) with references from past and present girlfriends.
3 - to be first guest on said show .. of course using afor mentioned nubile
young ladies and the more attractive ladies from this flood of emails I've
recieved...
so thank you everyone for helping me with this burst of creative energy...
I'm feeling drained - back to bed ...

what is it with you guys and your dicks.?
of course its about size, !!!!!!!!!!!
next time your told " its ok, its big enough, I like it that size" she's
lying
only problem is most guys with big dicks are dickheads
I talk from experience....
I was lucky enough to stumble on a guy who wasn't.
Forest Gump's mom said " life was lake a box of chocolates, you never know
what you'll get till you open one " or something like that.
I say "life is like mens underpants", for the same reason,
but to be honest , if it was only size, men would be redundant, you cant
compete with vibrators.
so to bring it back to a cycling metaphor. - ' its the journey thats fun and
important, not what your riding' -
run that one by your lady the next time she's unsatisfied,

Debs
your sounding frustrated,
obviously this has dredged up long repressed feelings,
a wet weekend, I hope your partner is up to the task.
Or you have a good supply of batteries.
I'm always willing to help.
A slow night at work last night so I went surfing.
My research into the object of your long ago lust has turned up liitle
..
Hoges. Michelle. Lain./ seem to share your passion for cycling, or at
least a remembered love of 'riding'.
Peter / from Singapore is looking for a land deal on Koh Samui.
He seems to be the one that started this interest, and outpouring of fond
memories.
Harry / once toured with him and rents a house from mr grey on said island,
Flash and his wife / met Ross and his wife; [ violins, crying into your
wine ]; last year and cycled with him,
Rebike tours of Samui, manager...
Henry / says he will be on the island later in the year and is presently
in Australia,
Glonni / would like to interview him about his cycling touring,
Haven't tried the phone books as I'm not sure where the line between looking
and stalking is..
Some things seem sure... he spends a lot of time in Thailand, runs a cycle
tour, owns land and rents houses.
and I'm guessing keeps a low profile.
Ladies, let me know if you need comforting.
I still need reference's for my upcoming reality show.

Ok so I may have offended some people and I'm told I may have embarrassed
Ross,
at my age, 50 this year,
you really don't care anymore
so...
GET OVER IT.
Ross and I have shared history, that 20 odd years can't change, and I doubt
he's changed enough to take me seriously,
we had some very good times in the 80's, he's one of the few guy's who's
genitalia I've welcomed in my mouth.
oh hell
done it again
sorry about that.
red faces all around.
d purvis
September 13th 05, 11:26 AM
Apologies for all thats gone before.
Ross if you or your family ever read any of this ****, sorry for any
embarrassment,
Ok so lets get serious ,
I want to put together a picture of the cycle tours that Ross did, during
the 80's and 90's
so if you've every met him on his rides or know him today let me know,
put ROSS in the subject header of the email so I won't trash it,
no spam please,
when I first met him at Wodonga, Victoria as part of 2 legs of the big ride
in '82, he was 20 (I think), and had done most of New Zealand and highway
one around oz.,
I last met him in Jan 87, and hed been through India - pakastain ,
indonesia, - laos , peru - brazil, and was talking about doing england -
turkey and into russia
in the last letter where he said he was getting married, he also said he
hadnt made russia as there was too many hassles with visas so he'd gone
across north africa instead.
In Australia I know he'd done Queensland - Victoria return 6 times using
different routes, and was really keen on desert tracks, he was ****ed off
one year because they wouldn't give him permission to ride through the
warburton mission on his way from WA - Alice Springs , so he got a lift
through that area in a van.and was upset because now he couldn't say he'd
done that road.
I know when he left here one year he went up to Mildura and followed the
darling river up to Queensland ,
I used to tease him about the out of the way places he got too, and he
impressed the hell out of me one day by telling me the history of some of
the desert tracks, he'd been on, how they'd been camel tracks and used by
the miners chaseing gold,
Told me about one miner who last century cycled through the desert having
to backtrack all the time to bring up extra water from springs, so that in
the end he was travelling 3-4x the distance,
He was always on about people not knowing their alive, how he was going
places on the bike, like the darling river, where people had gone on foot a
hundred years ago,
when we were out on rides his pet hate was the big 4 wheel drive, city
cowboys,
So thats some of my more sensible memories of Ross, Let me know yours,
rav4
