Time to reintroduce Road Tax

Road damage is the 4th power of axle loading which means a 1000kg car causes 100 million times as much damage to our roads as a 10kg bicycle. If cyclists pay 1p per year Road Tax how much should motorists pay?

Be reasonable, one should include the driver/passenger/cyclist's weight as
well. 70kg per cyclist, 120kg per car occupant.

Yes, but then we should add a tank of fuel at about 50kgs.

So it's only 10 million.
Modern cars with their 'safety' features such as air bags, impact bars, crumple zones and anti-thought brakes weigh far more than their counterparts of old.

The trouble is that many people think it is a rental payment, not a
maintenance payment.
