The heavily pregnant woman in her 40s was rushed to hospital after she was hit by the driver, believed to be in a white van, on Monday (December 2).

Police are investigating the incident, which happened in Aylestone Road in Liecester at around 9.30pm.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hawkins from Leicestershire Police said: “This is a serious collision, which has left a heavily pregnant woman in hospital with serious injuries and in which the driver involved has failed to stop."

A man was arrested today on suspicion of drink-driving after a collision in Leicester which left a heavily pregnant woman seriously ill in hospital.

Police detained a 40-year-old man from Leicester after last night’s incident in Aylestone Road, Aylestone, in which the woman, a cyclist, was injured.

The collision happened near the junction with Park Hill Drive at about 9.30pm.

A driver involved in the incident was reported to have failed to stop at the scene.

A man has been arrest(SIC) on suspicion of drink-driving and on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The cyclist, a heavily pregnant woman, who is in her 40s, suffered serious injuries in the incident.

The woman has lost her baby, so it may now be a manslaughter charge.
