Cyclist on Cyclist violence leads to death of Portland man, 56
~
news article from The (Portland) Oregonian A 56-year-old man who suffered severe head injuries in a bike-on-bike collision Aug. 12 in Southeast Portland has died, authorities said. Daniel Hunt was riding downhill on Southeast 11th Avenue when he collided with another male cyclist who was pulling out of a parking lot near Stark Street, police said. Both men were transients, and neither was wearing a helmet, said Sgt. Brian Schmautz, a Portland Police Bureau spokesman. "The person who was at fault is the one who hit his head on the ground hard," Schmautz said. So there was no investigation beyond an initial report. Although the crash happened on the same day as the Providence Bridge Pedal, it was not related to the event. Hunt succumbed Aug. 21 at Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center. He died of a skull fracture and internal bleeding, according to the Multnomah County medical examiner's office. |
