Hire Bike and momentum

Hi All,
debating whether to take my own light bike on plane to ride down the Danube or us a hire bike.
one argument for the hire is that on a totally flat route the heavier bike picks up more...

put new chain on and got skipping so did the usual and replaced the rear sprokets. Still skipped. Various mechanics looked at it and checked:
a: drop out - it was true
b: indexing
c: b-...
