Default Wriggling killer biker walks free

QUOTE:
A motorcyclist who killed a pedestrian while speeding escaped jail after a judge accepted that a tailgating motorist meant he could not slow down.

Christopher Carney, then 18, was travelling home at speed when he ran down father-of-four Raymond Richardson, 57, who was crossing a dual carriageway after meeting his brother in a pub.

Carney, from Denton, Greater Manchester, swerved in a bid to avoid Mr Richardson, but struck him with his Kawasaki.

Police discovered he was travelling at 48mph in a 30mph zone and Mr Richardson, from Stockport, died of his injuries in hospital.

The defendant's claim that he was unable to brake because a sports car was too close behind him, prompted fury from Mr Richardson's family.
