One bike is being stolen every six minutes as criminal gangs target
wealthy cyclists who have top-of-the range models.
Almost 100,000 bikes were reported as stolen last year, a 17 per cent
increase on 2015, analysis of crime figures shows.
Over the past three years more than a quarter of a million bikes were
stolen in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
London had the biggest rise in thefts, up 40 per cent in the east of the
city.
Experts say the jump in bike crime is partly down to the growing
popularity of cycling to work but organised gangs appear to be a factor.
