Jason Handley was driving at 54mph - almost twice the legal limit - when he struck the cyclist in Willenhall on July 27 last year.

The Mercedes driver initially went back to check on the cyclist, but quickly turned around when he realised he had caused serious injuries.

WRIGGLE ALERT - SM When he was arrested and interviewed in August last year, Handley tried to blame the 24-year-old cyclist, claiming that the lights were amber and he had ridden out in front of his car.

However CCTV footage proved the driver had jumped a red light and also showed him driving down a bus lane shortly before the crash.

Handley, 31, has been jailed for 21 months and banned from the roads for five years after admitting a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Wolverhampton Crown Court."
