Default Richmond Park closed to cars, bikes next if cyclists fail to ride solo

Idiot drivers banned.
QUOTE:
Following scenes of crowds in Richmond Park over the weekend, Royal Parks has closed the gates to all (motor) vehicle traffic while issuing a stark warning to cyclists to obey social distancing or also be banned.

The Royal Parks drew national attention over the weekend following heavy traffic in Richmond and Bushy Parks in South West London, and crowded cafe kiosks beside Roehampton Gate and Pen’s Pond. Pictures and video from the parks became one of the crucial focal points of illustrations of social distancing not being followed.

On Sunday morning the Royal Parks announced that all cafes across the parks would close, before closing the gates to Richmond Park later in the day.

Cyclists will be permitted to continue using the park, but Royal Parks has specified that social distancing must be followed, meaning cyclists must remain at least two metres apart at all times. It was followed with a warning that 'if cyclists do not adhere to these guidelines we will have no choice but to close the parks.'

The Royal Parks will be reviewing the current measures on a daily basis, but as of this morning (Monday 23rd March) Richmond Park gates remain closed to motor vehicles.

Across social media the debate over whether it was responsible to cycle for fitness continued, however the government's guidance remains clear that, 'you can also go for a walk or exercise outdoors if you stay more than two metres from others.' Many politicians and healthcare professionals have been vocal on the value of physical exercise outdoors, and at present there are no signs that restrictions will be put in place.
