The idiot taxi driver nearly wiped Jeremy out by turning right
instead of giving way to him, of course.

If the driver had nearly wiped him out he would not have had time to
hoot. The first driver going through would have put anybody on their
guard for a tailgater following on. It was much too late to get the
driver to change course so served no purpose other than to release his
irritation. Just as happens with many drivers.
