In France in 1973 there where 18000 deaths by motor vehicle. There
are now 3500 but traffic has doubled. That is a big shift in
attitude - and medical response.

Interestingly, the figures have levelled off over the last 10 years,
where the effect of NCAP should be seen. Making people feel too
comfortable, perhaps?

I seem to recall that there is evidence that people are willing to
live with a certain amount of risk and will adapt their behaviour to
the risk level.

The people that want to inflict helmets on cyclists aren't listening...

...especially not to the bit about how much it makes the cylist look "a
tit"?

I haven't noticed any breast shaped helmets on sale.

It may also be a mistake to seek easy solutions to minimise KSI
figures if the cost of doing so outweighs the benefits. For instance
I'm unconvinced that the change in behaviour that now requires
children to be driven to school rather than walking on their own was
a good move.

It is said that it delays the ability to become road wise. Trussed up
tight in modern cars with tiny windows, they don't even get the
opportunity to look at the world outside.

"Modern cars with tiny windows"?

Well done. You have actually repeated something I wrote, rather than
making up something I didn't.

Don't confuse window aperture with glass area.

Maybe on your planet.

Yes.
