This is correct, but I recently read an interesting fact about
consecutive victories. After winning four consecutive Tours, both
Jacques Anquetil and Eddy Mercks chose to skip the Tour the following
year! Eddy chose to concentrate on the Giro and Veulta in 1973, while
Anquetil wanted to win several classics in 1965.

Eddy also won 35 Tour Stages.
