Default Maintenance manual for visually oriented newbie

I have a relatively nice mountain bike which I Do Not Deserve (In

take care of it properly and learn how to make simple repairs and
adjustments.

For every four people I see praising "Zinn and the Art of Mountain
Bike Maintenance" there's a fifth saying "Aaargh! Not enough
diagrams!". I'm very visually oriented so good page design is
important to me.

Can anybody recommend a nice, logical maintenance book, suitable for
beginners, preferably with photographs.

I'm interested in "Mountain Bike Maintenance: The Illustrated Manual"
by Mel Allwood, so I'd be pleased if anybody who has it could tell me
how it is.

Thanks for any help,
Steff

Barnette's Manual and the Zinn book you mentioned should be
in your collection. Zinn gives you the basics, enough to do "normal"
maintenance. Barnette goes deeper into each subject.
