I think I might try drilling out a the cable housing side (non drive) side on an extra Shimano one I have here and insert a metal noodle from a V-brake and see if that works. It's a lot cheaper than $40+ dollars for a guide and its shipping.

Well if that suits your application, how about two bucks?
