About 10 years ago there was a poster on this forum who bought a bike for commuting to work. The bike was stolen. The thief told the police the owner gave it to him, and the police walked away. The owner went with some friends and took his bike back. When the cops take that attitude, one wonders how long before no one will cooperate with them.

Mind you, just down the road from Jay, in Eugene, OR, the cops tell the citizens they can't be bothered with property crimes because the citizens don't give them enough money... That sounds rather like the tulumbadschi (a sort of eastern mafia centred on the fire service) in Turkey who would start fires so that they could be called and demand a bribe before they put out the fire.

What about Eugene? https://www.eugene-or.gov/979/Property-Crimes Is there some Alt right urban myth circulating that hasn't come to my attention? Eugene is a hell hole. https://www.lohrrealestate.com/wp-co...tte-eugene.png

Honestly, though, the federal court house is a ridiculous, bloated shrine to Wayne Morse. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...ner_cro p.JPG You stand in the court rooms and think ch-ching! Your tax dollars at work! https://i.pinimg.com/originals/16/ae...5452c29f62.jpg

The opinionated brazier of touring bikes? I got some of my early views on touring bikes from him, and probably still hold some of those, though it would be difficult to distinguish them from what I learned from others and deduced for myself over the last three decades. At least his ideas hung together comprehensively, which cannot be said for the majority of "braziers", who're jumped-up welders.

Nothing against jumped up welders, of course, as long as they hop off the pavement and touch their forelock when I approach
