9/16" is highly unlikely. More probably 1" x 3/16". Either
locate/finance/acquire a chain or count on changing the cog. A standard
1/2" x 1/8" track cog fits most. Which brand/model hub is it?

It's a Bendix red band hub from the '50s or so.

I have a piece of 1/2" X 3/16" drive chain and it's not meshing!

OK, I see the issue. My piece of chain is too narrow! It's 1/8" wide
and the hub predates 1/8" chains!!!

I did the math and it's almost exactly a fifty cent pitch.

As Gilda Radner used to say... NEVER MIND!!!

Is there any issue using a wide chain on a modern (1/8") chain ring?
I wouldn't expect anything serious... a little extra wear, maybe.

Try a motor-cycle chain, I think I read once that was the standard
track bikes used to be. 'Till this new fangled 1/8th trend came along
that is!
