I use a common Sears screwdriver. Don't remember what size. Use whatever
fits.

They're some mongrel screw that either a small straight blade or #1
Phillips will fit. A Swiss Army knife has both.
Hazet makes good screwdrivers.

A dime and a plumber's wrench.

Absolut vodka and fresh-squeezed orange juice with the
pulp strained out. In a tall, chilled glass, poured
over 3 or 4 ice cubes. Hold the garbage.

You can say that again.

If you want a good screwdriver, I recommend Snapon.

I find Phillips's tend to chew the slots - I don't think those
screws have true Phillips heads. They seem more like 2 straight
slots (with tapered sides), cut crosswise.

One might intuitively expect a hollow-ground, machine-screw
screwdriver or jeweller's screwdriver would be ideal - especially
the latter, as they're light and packable. But IME a small enough
plain old wood-screw, tapered blade, straight-slot screwdriver fits
best in derailer adjustment screw slots. Maybe Park has some
overpriced, chi-chi/fru-fru item in some exotic alloy that works
almost as well.

Tom

Aaaaak! Mortgage the house!!!
Snapon used to have a warranty that would cover replacement if you
melted the screwdriver into a pile of slag. No more. They are
currently the worst buggers to deal with for warranty in my
experience. Screw 'em!!!!!
For the best warranty and quality, try Sears or Canadian Tire.
'Crappy Tire' has the best warranty and quality currently and the
lowest price. Mac et al don't make their own stuff anymore and I have
seen unbranded versions of their tools for a very small fraction of
the price they ask. A set of 7 1/4" drive hex sockets from Mac?
$120.00. I **** you not. They are garbage quality and I seriously
regret having ordered them from Mac. I can buy far higher quality
individually for much less money. My Snap-On stuff? Absolute ****e
lately. Never again. **** 'em.

The warranty at Sears is good on their craftsman tools, but I've broken
2 screwdrivers in the past 2 weeks by attempting to turn them by hand on
rusted screws. And I mean the 1/4" professional screwdriver. Leaves
something to be said about quality.

I'll just take it back and get another one.

But I've given up on Sears Craftsman...locally the Sears folks don't seem to
remember the warranty, and I have better things to do than to waste an hour
working my way up to the store manager to get the warranty honored. Even
with a copy of the tool catalog with the warranty in it, the reaction is
"I've never heard of that before."

YMMV in a better Sears store...here all the clerks seem to be 18 year old
high-school dropouts.

Bill
