Looking at Google Streetview, he could have been riding on the footpath
or dangerously close to the kerb. A lot of older people ride close to
the kerb, thinking it is safer. Either way, and regardless of this, Old
Fella Falls Off Bike and Bashes Bonce is not exactly headline news.

You're right in a sort of way: it is happening all over the country on a daily
basis - cyclists coming off their bikes and being injured.

As you say not news: but always interesting to see if it was a lamp or wall's
fault rather than the cyclists.

I know the location well. Went to school very near the spot.

Some stretches of road (which were adapted in the early twentieth
century from ancient country lanes around Woolton village) have no
footway at one side and are effectively bordered by a sandstone wall. It
would be easy to hit a wall on losing control.
