Lances TDF chances: Astana vs Radioshack
Most of opinons in the news seems to favor Contador at this point.
Even Lance has said this. Lance's only chance will be to tire out Contador in the flats. So the question then is just how strong is team Astana aside from the major riders like Vino, Ruberia etc... The most probable point to gain time is in the cobble stone stage. Alberto knows and is going to train on that stage in February. |

The headline "POST RACE FRENCH DRUG TEST SHOWS CONTADOR POSITIVE - ARMSTRONG DECLARED TDF WINNER !" Oh what sweet irony that would be.... Zeno |

Zeno I get the irony, but there are several mistakes in your claim. First, you are assuming that Armstrong will get second (or be shown as the first non-doper) Second, the French will never allow Contador to be deeked if Armstrong stands to win. |

Au contraire, your second assumption is untrue. Lance endeared himself to the French in the best-possibly manner last year by coming in third. It couldn't have been scripted better, in terms of acceptance and redemption. An heroic loss. The french press eats that stuff up. Guess it's what they can best relate to (talking cycling here, not past wars). --Mike-- Chain Reaction Bicycles www.ChainReactionBicycles.com |

It's not a function of tiring Contador out on the flats, it's a function of pushing the field so hard on the stage w/ the cobbles that they split the field and put many, many minutes into Contador and any other lightweight climber type who can't make it into the front group over the cobbles. There is a very good chance that whomever does make the front group will have maybe 8 or 10 minutes over the riders who don't make the group. Fred |

Fred A possible strategy for Radioshack is to push the pace very hard till the Arrenberg stage. Then protect their lead until the mountains. One issue is that more of the top climbers like Contador are more well rounded. So it's harder to put signiificant time on the flats. The key is just how strong Contador really is. |
