Default HEALTHY MALE CYCLISTS FOR UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON STUDY

HEALTHY MALE CYCLISTS
NEEDED FOR UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON
MOTION ANALYSIS RESEARCH STUDY
We are looking for:
Healthy male cyclists between the ages of 18-35 years old
Who meet the following criteria:
USCF licensed racer for at least the last 3 years
Currently Training or Racing
And who do NOT have:
o scoliosis
o serious back pain
o arthritis or other joint degeneration
o one leg longer than the other
o history of pelvic or lower extremity fractures
o allergies to adhesives or tape
o an adverse reaction to exercise
The purpose of this study is to determine the difference in knee angle when
measured statically, while sitting on a bicycle, and dynamically, while
riding a bicycle. Current bicycle fit protocols state that knee angle should
be set within a range of 25-35 degrees while the rider sits still on the
bicycle. The current bicycle fit protocol attempts to define a range of knee
bend that will provide maximum power and comfort while preventing injury.
This study is designed to determine the relationship between measured knee
angles while sitting still and while riding at various cadences and levels
of resistance.
This study will be conducted at the PRO Sports Club in Seattle, Washington
and will take approximately one hour of your time. At the completion of the
study, we will provide you with a computerized printout of your lower
extremity motion during cycling.
