Annoying, but predictable
Anglia trains intend to restrict the carrying of bikes on their trains.
Northern Rail have already achieved this by simply greeting cyclists with a wall of people at the doors of their overcrowded services. Since the demise of the guard's van, and the massive increase in the usage of trains, is this inevitable? http://road.cc/content/news/95778-gr...plans-bike-ban |

They're supposed to be a viable means of transport in their own right. Cross-Channel ferries (even cross-Mersey ferries) are one thing (after all, none of us can walk, drive or cycle on water and even the circuitous route round an estuary may take too long), but why the need for a bike to be carried between two points connected by a fairly direct route on land? |

I hope that nobody credits the f'wit with an attempt at an answer to his stupid. |

Good point well made. |

I was thinking more that people are using their bikes for part of their journey because it is the CAR that is not a viable form of transport. BrianNob goes off on a tangent yet again. |

wrote: Why do bikes need to travel by train? I would have thought that the answer to that is obvious: They don't *need* to, but a bike and train is a very viable intercity door-to-door travel option. But this raises a much more pertinent question: http://www.seat61.com/Motorail.htm I expect the answer is remarkably similar to that above. |
