Yet another London cyclist has been killed by a skip driver.
http://www.london-se1.co.uk/news/view/5169

I expect the TfL railings are also partly to blame.

Do you mean that they stopped him cycling on the pavement hence he had to mix it with the other
traffic?

The BMA view of helmets:

The BMA (British Medical Association) urges legislation to make the wearing of cycle helmets compulsory for both adults and children.
The evidence from those countries where compulsory cycle helmet use has already been introduced is that such legislation has a beneficial effect on cycle-related deaths and head injuries.
This strongly supports the case for introducing legislation in the UK. Such legislation should result in a reduction in the morbidity and mortality associated with cycling accidents.

In a way, yes.

They may have prevented him from using the footway as an emergency
escape from the wheels of the skip truck.

Commonly, the HGV left hook involves a cyclist being trapped between
railings and the HGV. Although the bicycle is not close to the
railings in the photo, it may have been dragged to its position post
collision.

This sort of political fencing [no pun intended] isn't right in situations
like this.

A 20-yr-old is dead. To his parents, he'll have still been a boy, scarcely
out of secondary school.

Let the authorities worry about who to blame.

Thanks for the reality check, it is just about the most sensitive
thing I have heard from you.

I am surprised you did not add the usual "My thoughts are with his family" - that really shows
concern and sincerity.

In situations like this, I try hard NOT to let my thoughts be "with the
family". It's far too unbearable.

There but for the grace of God...

It's odd that the usually callous Mr Cheerless has taken to calling
the girl killed four years ago by the "get out of my way" cyclist as
"Rhiannon". Mind you, after the number of times he has wheeled out
this case, she must appear as a family member by now.

"Our poor Rhiannon" cannot be far off.

I think Judith has a special term for this.

And another arrest on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
