U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested an American
teenager on Wednesday, February 17, when he attempted to smuggle
marijuana into the U.S.

At about 3:00 p.m., the 18-year-old male, who is also a resident of
Tijuana, entered the border crossing as a pedestrian with a bike.
According to a report obtained from the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security, the CBP officer inspected the mountain bike and felt
something bulky in the tires. Officers used a narcotic-detector dog
that alerted them to the possibility of contraband.

After the mountain bike underwent x-ray inspection, agents removed the
bike’s tires and found more than two-and-a-half pounds of marijuana
stuffed into the tire tubes. The pot was stated to be worth over
$1300.

CBP officers turned the teen over to U.S. Immigration and Custom
Enforcement (ICE) agents. He is currently being held in the San Diego
County Jail.

biking. He did have a mountain bike with him. Beyond that, you have no

road bikes and are widely preferred as 'city' bikes
for that reason. A fat tired bike with lots of gears
and upright handle bars are frequently called
"mountain bikes" whether they are used for what
is called "mountain biking".

You don't know what you are talking about. "Fat" street tires are not
"mountain biking" tires. They aren't knobby. The knobs slow you down
and waste energy. The same goes for the suspension. It also adds to
the cost. Only an idiot would ride a mountain bike on the street. Hey,
that describes mountain bikers perfectly! According to mountain bike
experts (who sell them), mountain bikes that won;'t fall apart when
ridden on a trail start at about $600. A bit much, just to ride around
town....
